Fright Train Weapons Tier List
Which guns earn their credit cost on the Great White.
This weapons tier list ranks Fright Train armaments by storm clear speed, credit efficiency, and inventory burden. Exact shop names can vary with updates; treat archetypes as the truth source and re-check Updates after patches.
Before buying anything exotic, finish the habits in Getting Started and Inventory Management. A messy bag makes every gun feel worse.
S-Tier — buy with confidence
Upgraded starter pistol
The default sidearm is intentionally honest. Hands-on coverage repeatedly notes that a fully upgraded pistol remains reliable for mid-range aisle work. Because you already carry it, upgrades convert sunk inventory into real DPS without a second huge weapon body. Keep chest mags dedicated to this gun until a true replacement outclasses it in your hands.
Shotgun-style close kit
Train cars reward cone deletes at doorways and corners. Shotgun archetypes shine during storm lock-ins when enemies funnel through windows and vents. Pair with shutter discipline from Keep the Train Running. Ammo is hungrier — budget boxes, do not romanticize infinite shells.
A-Tier — excellent with a plan
SMG / spray mid-fighters
Great when cars open into messier mid spaces and you have mag packing down cold. Forgives movement more than precision rifles. Punishes agents who never pre-pack magazines before the red marker.
Rifle / longer sightline picks
When a car actually gives you length, rifles punish armored weak points and distant spawns. They drop in value if you only fight closet geometry. Steady-aim control binds from Controls matter more here.
B-Tier — situational
Extra sidearms beyond the upgraded starter
Diversity is cool until your pockets are all guns and no antifreeze. Only keep a second sidearm if it fills a range gap you truly feel.
Experimental variants / modifiers
Roguelite unlocks and weird variants can be delightful. Rank them below integrity tools until your storm survival rate is stable. Cosmetics and goofy attachments are earned swagger, not day-two insurance.
C-Tier — novelty tax
Over-collection of simultaneous primaries
Carrying every gun “because I paid for them” is how agents lose heat pads and antifreeze slots. Sell or stash the losers. Your build should answer the next storm, not a museum tour.
Grenades and explosives
Grenades are tempo resets, not primary identity. S-tier usage: break a surround, delete a clump blocking a repair path, or finish a wave that would otherwise chew car integrity for another twenty seconds. Spam that empties your economy without shortening clears is C-tier behavior with an S-tier toy.
Upgrade priority cheat sheet
- Starter pistol upgrades until it feels snappy
- One close-range storm specialist (shotgun archetype)
- Mag capacity / handling upgrades that cut reload misery
- A mid/long option only if cars demand it
- Fashion and meme variants
Matching guns to guides
- Storm arenas: Combat and Storms
- Ammo packing: Inventory Management
- What else to carry: Items Tier List
- Armor behaviors: Enemies
Credit mistakes to avoid
- Ordering a huge roof-drop weapon while both hands are busy and temperature is falling
- Buying a rifle you cannot feed
- Ignoring pistol upgrades because “starter guns are temporary”
- Funding a third gun before your first antifreeze reserve
Sample kits
First successful extracts: upgraded pistol + shotgun + grenade + antifreeze + heat pad.
Armored learning runs: precision-capable mid gun + spare mags + less loot junk.
Economy unlock runs: pistol focus, sell extras, spend on doors and maintenance.
Revisit this list whenever a patch changes damage or prices. Until then, trust boring guns that keep the train moving — excitement is surviving the next marker with shells still in the mag.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Antarctic agents.
Is the starter pistol bad?
No. Upgraded, it is one of the best credit-efficient tools in the game. Rank it high until a true upgrade replaces it.
Shotgun or rifle first?
Most agents should secure a close-range storm option first; add rifles when car lengths reward them.
Where do item priorities live?
See the companion Items Tier List for antifreeze, heat pads, and utilities.
